VTU ties up with German firm Staff Reporter BANGALORE: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has commenced a transactional project with Germany, envisaging development of a revolutionary type of air bearing using mouldable techniques, thereby reducing the production cost by over 50 per cent. Under the transactional project, an academic partner and an industrial partner from India and Germany would be involved in the development. The contract of cooperation was signed during the Indo-German Business Forum, organised by the International Technology Cooperation Network (INTEC sponsored by the German Government. The German company involved in the project was Diamant Metaplastic. IN- TEC would fund Diamant Metaplastic to develop polymer formulations and methods of moulding for mouldable air bearing. INTEC would also support the Indo-German Institute of Technology at VTU for developing remote controls and investigation production engineering for mouldable bearings. The Indian company in the project, Magnum Engineers, would develop and construct prototypes and execute exemplary applications for mouldable air bearings, a VTU release said. This cooperation is the second after the initial foray of Diamant Metaplastic and VTU to establish the Indo-German Institute of Technology (IGIT) at VTU, resulting in the setting up of a Tribology and Ultra Precise moulding techniques lab.
